Australian residents: building a Ireland Passport the right way
Scope lock: this URL is for Ireland Passport travel-document photos only — licence and national-ID copy live on their own pages.
From Australia, applicants often need a Ireland Passport for travel document renewals filed online or through a US mission. An Australian Passport Office crop will not satisfy Ireland reviewers if the millimetre size differs.
This article is scoped to Ireland Passport as a Ireland travel / passport photo (35 × 45 mm, Light grey). Driving-licence and national-ID wording is not pasted here.
The Australian Passport Office teaches a 35 × 45 mm habit. Ireland Passport breaks that habit on purpose: target 35 × 45 mm and Light grey every time.
Official framing for Ireland Passport on FotoPass is 35 × 45 mm with a Light grey background. Treat any other country’s booth print as a different template.
From Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or regional AU: shoot a clean selfie indoors, lock Ireland Passport in the selector, upload, and keep the export for Ireland online renewal or a Ireland mission appointment in Australia.
Passport Office size ≠ Ireland Passport size
Do not “letterbox” an AU 35 × 45 mm file into another shape — automated Ireland passport checks still see wrong head ratios.
Cream or pale-grey AU studio papers can also fail Ireland Passport if the portal expects pure Light grey.
Timezone & filing tips for AU applicants of Ireland Passport
Generate the passport photo the same week you submit; Ireland portals dislike outdated likeness more than travellers expect.
If you print locally in Australia, ask for an exact 35 × 45 mm cut — not “passport photo” as a generic shop code.
Ireland passport photo — what people search
This page is scoped to Ireland Passport only: 35 × 45 mm on a Light grey background. Licence or national-ID crops belong on their own document pages.
Queries such as “Ireland passport photo size” and “biometric passport photo” should land here — not on a driving-licence tool with a coincidentally similar millimetre size.
Ireland passport note
Irish passport photos follow their own checklist; Ireland Passport exports 35 × 45 mm / Light grey.
Australia → Ireland passport acceptance gate
- Document = Ireland Passport (Ireland law)
- Size 35 × 45 mm (not AU 35 × 45 mm)
- Background Light grey
- No reused Australian Passport Office JPEG
- Even daylight; no beach-glare selfies
- Market shows Australia, rules stay Ireland
AU market branding on FotoPass only localises chrome — Ireland Passport still ships Ireland millimetres.
