50×60 mm vs 35×45 mm: which passport / visa photo size do you need?

Türkiye documents use 50×60; Schengen and most EU passports use 35×45. Squashing the wrong ratio distorts the face and causes refusal — pick the right document.

Two different standards

50×60 mm: Türkiye passport, national ID, licence (and many NVI processes). 35×45 mm: Schengen short-stay visas and many EU passport / ID photos (Germany, France, Italy, etc.).

Use our AI-powered Türkiye Passport Photo Tool to auto-crop your image in 3 seconds.

US passports are a 2×2 in (51×51 mm) square — a third format group. Converting between them is not “almost the same”.

Why the wrong size gets refused

Forcing the wrong aspect ratio into the target size squashes the face. Head height (the ~70–80% band) and eye line break; automated scanners or counters refuse the file.

You can produce two countries from one selfie — but only with separate document selection and separate crops. Do not paste one JPEG everywhere.

Which size for which application?

Civil registry / Turkish ID / Türkiye passport / licence → 50×60. German, French, Italian passport or Schengen visa → 35×45. US passport / DS-160 → 2×2 in.

When unsure, check the agency checklist, then pick that country’s document in FotoPass.

Apply the right size in seconds

Upload a sharp selfie; the Türkiye passport tool outputs 50×60 mm. For Schengen, switch the document to Schengen / that country’s passport — AI changes the ratio.
