Australia ID / Licence from South Africa: identity-document crop only
Scope lock: Australia ID / Licence is an identity / residence-style document page, kept separate from passport and licence URLs.
Living in South Africa does not change the Australia photo standard for Australia ID / Licence. Use this page when the application names Australia sizes, not a local ICA or Home Affairs crop.
This article is scoped to Australia ID / Licence as a Australia identity / residence-style photo (35 × 45 mm, Light grey), kept separate from passport and licence pages.
Cross-border ID work: market South Africa, photo law Australia for Australia ID / Licence. Passport and licence copy stay on other URLs.
Australian passport guidance centres on 35 × 45 mm. If you selected Australia ID / Licence, ignore that local default and keep 35 × 45 mm with Light grey.
Home-market tip: South Africa passport photos are commonly about 35 × 45 mm. Australia ID / Licence instead demands 35 × 45 mm — different aspect ratio, not a simple resize.
From South Africa: selfie → Australia ID / Licence → upload → use the export for Australia registry / residence filings.
Why South Africa defaults fail Australia ID checks
A 35 × 45 mm South Africa print is not automatically a valid 35 × 45 mm ID crop for Australia ID / Licence.
Registries want a plain Light grey field and a current likeness — not a reused travel JPEG.
Registry / online ID notes from South Africa
File the newest Australia ID / Licence export with the Australia identity office or portal.
Compress only after the ID crop is locked.
Keep the selector on Australia ID / Licence
Do not flip to a South Africa passport or licence mid-flow — millimetres will silently change.
Australia ID / residence photo
Australia ID / Licence uses 35 × 45 mm and a Light grey background. If you arrived from a passport or licence search, confirm the selector still shows this ID document.
