OCI Card Photo Requirements 2026: 2×2 Inch Square Upload Guide
OCI needs a **square 2×2 inch (51×51 mm)** photo — not the Passport Seva 630×810 rectangle. Light background, JPEG, usually ≤200 KB.
What OCI needs
Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) digital upload wants a square JPEG: print size 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), pixels often in the 200×200–900×900 range, and on many forms about 200 KB max. Face should fill most of the frame; neutral expression, mouth closed.
Use our AI-powered FotoPass Photo Tool to auto-crop your image in 3 seconds.
Background guidance often says plain light / light-coloured — pure white can fail some portal checks. Read the ociservices.gov.in checklist on the day you apply.
OCI ≠ Indian passport (Passport Seva)
Passport Seva digital photos are exactly 630×810 px rectangles; prints are usually 35×45 mm. OCI is a 2×2 square. Pasting one JPEG into both portals is the top refusal path.
If you renew a passport and file OCI the same week, prepare two separate files. A US 2×2 passport square is close in size — still confirm OCI background rules separately.

Common refusal reasons
Rectangular Passport Seva file, over 200 KB, HEIC/PNG, smiling, beauty filters, shadowed background, WhatsApp compression.
Glasses glare is risky — remove if you can. Photo should show how you look within the last 6 months.
Get the right square with FotoPass
- 1
Sharp front selfie (beauty / Portrait off).
- 2
Pick the square OCI / India-visa-family document in the picker.
- 3
The FotoPass tool applies the square crop and a light background.

Bring the JPEG under 200 KB and upload to the OCI portal.
VFS / BLS packets may still want printed 2×2 copies — use the same crop as the digital file.
