India passport photo size 2026: Passport Seva 630×810 guide
Digital upload needs exactly **630×810 px** JPEG; prints are usually **35×45 mm**. The old 2×2 square is for OCI/visa — do not mix them up.
What Passport Seva requires
For Indian passport applications the online portal (Passport Seva) needs a photo that is exactly 630 × 810 pixels, JPEG, and usually 10–250 KB. Print packets on most checklists use a 35 × 45 mm (ICAO) rectangle; the old square 2×2 format is no longer the current passport standard after September 2025.
Use our AI-powered India Passport Photo Tool to auto-crop your image in 3 seconds.
Wrong pixel dimensions fail at upload instantly. A studio may say “passport photo” yet leave a 600×600 or 2×2 file — check the file properties before you submit.

Passport ≠ OCI / India visa
OCI cards and many India visa / e-Visa flows still want a square 2×2 inch (about 51×51 mm) or a square pixel range. The Passport Seva rectangle will not pass the OCI portal — and the reverse fails too.
If you renew a passport and file OCI the same week, prepare two separate files. Pasting one JPEG everywhere is the most common mix-up.

Common refusal reasons
Wrong size (2×2 or 600×600), file over 250 KB, shadowed or patterned background, smiling, beauty filters, WhatsApp compression and Portrait-mode blur.
The face should fill most of the frame; ears and chin visible. Background plain white, light even across the face.
Get the right file with FotoPass
- 1
Take a sharp front selfie (beauty / Portrait off).
- 2
Select India passport in the document picker.
- 3
The FotoPass India passport tool applies 630×810 px and a white background.
- 4
Download the JPEG and upload to Passport Seva; use a 35×45 mm template if prints are required.
Overseas VFS / BLS packets may list a different print size — always verify the digital portal size separately from the print checklist.
