German passport photo (Passbild) 35×45 mm: 2026 rules
35×45 mm for German passport / national ID, neutral expression, plain light background. Compliant JPEG from a home selfie — studio not required.
What Germany requires
German passport (Reisepass) and national ID (Personalausweis) photos are biometric: outer size typically 35×45 mm, ICAO face ratio, eyes to camera, mouth closed, neutral expression.
Background must be plain and light (in practice often light grey / off-white). Patterns, shadows and Portrait blur cause refusals. The Germany passport photo tool applies the official crop.

Do not reuse Türkiye 50×60
Even if your Turkish documents are 50×60 mm, a German application needs 35×45. Do not paste an old Turkish ID print into a German form.
For a Germany output from the same selfie, select Germany passport / ID so AI changes the ratio.

Common mistakes
Smiling, tilted head, glasses glare, hair covering the face, door / socket in the background, HEIC / WhatsApp compression, beauty filters.
Squashing a US 2×2 square into 35×45 distorts the face. Digital-code / eID flows still need the same biometric quality.
